Aereo is countersuing the broadcasters who have filed suit against them.  Aereo, is a New York based company that streams local channels to internet connected devices. The service works by providing subscribers with their own individual over the air antenna that picks up live local TV signals and sends them to PCs, Macs,  set-top boxes, and tablets. The service costs 12 bucks a month and is only available in the New York City area, for now. Since Aereo is providing their service without authorization from broadcasters, the lawsuits hit the fan. Now Aereo is countersuing. In the counter claim, Aereo said “This case involves nothing more than the application of settled law to updated technology-settled law that establishes conclusively that Aereo’s business is entirely lawful.” “When a consumer is accessing broadcast television using the Aereo Technology, he or she is using a specific individual antenna that is tuned and used only by the consumer for the duration of that access. Aereo, through the Aereo Technology, simply provides its members the convenience of locating at a remote facility the type of equipment that they could othertwise have and use at home.” Barry Diller, Chairman of IAC/InteractveCorp (IAC is a major investor in Aereo), is ready to rumble with broadcasters: “It’s going to be a great fight.” Aereo is so confident that they’ll survive the legal challenges that Diller plans on having the service up and running in 75 to 100 additional cities within a year.
