Netflix reached a multi-year agreement with AMC Networks. As of today,  season one of The Walking Dead will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix. Netflix also obtained non-exclusive rights for other content from AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel, and WE tv. Programming includes IFC’s Portlandia and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret; WE tv’s Braxton Family Values, My Fair Wedding, and Bridezillas; and Sundance Channel’s All On The Line with Joe Zee and Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys. Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, said “Netflix is already the streaming home of “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” in the US and Latin America.” “We are delighted to be in business directly with AMC Networks.” Josh Sapan, AMC Networks President and CEO, said, “This agreement supports the cable ‘ecosystem’ by making our content available to Netflix nearly a year following the linear premiere, it brings our content to a wider audience, and it provides additional revenue to support production of new shows."

The financial arrangements of this deal were not disclosed. But as I noted in a previous post, Netflix will be using the $300 million per year that Starz turned down to snap up new movies and TV shows. As a result, Netflix has been rolling out new content to replace Starz programming that will end in February 2012.
