Comcast Still Bleeding Cable TV Customers
Comcast, the nation’s largest cable provider, released its 2012 3rd quarter earning report. First the bad news (for Comcast). The company lost another 117,000 cable TV subscribers in the past quarter. That’s on top of the 176,000 lost subscribers in the 2nd quarter of this year. But all is certainly not gloom and doom for Comcast. The company added 287,000 broadband customers in the 3rd quarter and 156,000 in the 2nd quarter. I’ve been following this for some time now. Big cable video subs are trending downward while internet subs are on the upswing. This shows a steady move toward cord-cutting and on-line video streaming.
Overall, Comcast revenues were up 15% in Q3. Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Corporation, said, “The third quarter continues our momentum. Cable’s results show real strength in every part of the business, producing sustainable and profitable growth while we expand our product offerings, deliver more innovation and continue to transform the customer experience.”
