Netflix Releases Kid Friendly Interface
One of my biggest criticisms of Netflix is the user interface. To be specific, it’s not exactly family friendly. When searching Netflix, it’s frustrating, especially on the Roku box, to see Dora The Explorer episodes listed next to Saw IV. Netflix still hasn’t solved that problem, but they’ve taken a step in the right direction. Netflix launched a “Just for Kids” interface on the website. Todd Yellin, Netflix VP of product innovation said “Click on the “Just For Kids” tab on the Netflix Web site and you’ll find a world of movies and TV shows suitable for children 12 and under.” The new interface allows kids to search for shows based on characters as well as titles. Yellin said “To prioritize these selections we’ve worked with Common Sense Media, a leading non-profit that provides trustworthy information and tools so that families can have a choice and a voice about the media they consume.”
The “Just for Kids” interface is only available on the PC and Mac at this time. But Netflix plans to roll it out to other devices, such as the iPad and Wii in the future.
