OnLive To Release Mobile Apps And 10 Gigabit Cloud Based Web Surfing
OnLive announced at this year’s E3 iPad and Android apps to be released later this year. The apps will allow users to play high end console games that are streamed to Apple and Android devices. Gamers will be able to use their iPads, iPhones, and Android devices as touch and motion controllers when using an HDTV or computer screen as a display. The devices can also be used alone to display and control games. The app also enables games displayed on these devices to be controlled with the new OnLive wireless controller. Voice chat and multiplayer features are also supported.
Onlive also demonstrated “first 10 gigabit cloud-based full-featured browser for iPad, Android and HDTV; bringing the full richness of the Web loading from ultra-fast 10 gigabit/second Web connections to OnLive’s cloud-based servers, including support for full-featured Flash and video sites.” Simply put, connected devices will be able to access internet content through a 10 gigabit speeds, regardless of local ISP speeds. Welcome to cloud based web surfing. This is a fascinating technology that’s worth keeping an eye on.
