WSJ: YouTube Won’t Be Part Of Apple’s Upcoming iOS 6
The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple’s YouTube app will not be part of the upcoming iOS 6 mobile operating system which will power iPhones, iPods, and iPads. The Journal said “The Cupertino, Calif., company [Apple] said Monday that its license for YouTube has expired, meaning the app will no longer be included in the next version of its mobile operating system, iOS 6. That version is expected to be released to the public this fall and developers are already using it.” According to Apple, iOS 6 users will be able to watch YouTube through Safari (Apple’s browser). Google said that "We are working with Apple to ensure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users." The Journal points out that animosity is growing between Apple and Google as they battle for mobile supremacy. And Google isn’t happy about Apple’s control over the YouTube app: “Apple has fully controlled design and features of the app, to the consternation of some at YouTube who wanted it to evolve to be more consistent with the company’s changing brand.” So when it comes to iOS 6, Apple and Google have agreed to part ways.
